How living wills work
Living wills, often
called "Health Care Directive," are documents
that express your wishes and desires about your health care
treatment if you are unable to communicate with your health
care provider. Your living will can speak for you in many
circumstances:
- Treatment methods
- "Do not resuscitate" situations
- Burial instructions
- Religious ceremony desires
Your living will can also designate someone to act in your
behalf, however this agent is bound to act based upon your
instructions in the living will.
Our law firm can draft a living will based upon your desires.
A comprehensive living will can sometimes be ten pages long,
and we will make sure that it covers all of your instructions,
and is also a document you understand. Once signed and properly
executed, the living will can come into force one you are
incapacitated (or immediately if you wish). Your instructions
are then controlling upon your health care treatment, and
the person you designate can speak in your interest.
Our law firm drafts living wills that are valid in all
states, so no matter where you may be located, our living
will be binding. Different states have different requirements
for living wills, and living wills drafted by our law firm
will be enforceable wherever you may travel.
