Alternative dispute resolution (ADR)
Alternative dispute resolution, often called "ADR,"
is the name for several processes which can be utilized to
avoid litigation. Litigation can sometimes incur $30,000-$50,000
in attorneys' fees and other costs, and alternative dispute
resolution seeks to minimize these costs.
With the number of court cases straining the legal system,
many judges and other legal professionals view alternative
dispute resolution as an acceptable means of decreasing caseload
in traditional courts, while settling disputes in a fair and
equitable way. While not all settlements reached through alternative
dispute resolution may not always be considered fair and equitable,
such methods are much less expensive than a traditional lawsuit.
